Strategic Memorandum of Understanding Signed Between Pharmalagasy S.A. (Madagascar) and Utopia Pharmaceuticals (Egypt) to Strengthen Pharmaceutical and Industrial Cooperation
In a significant step toward strengthening healthcare and industrial cooperation between the Republic of Madagascar and the Arab Republic of Egypt, Pharmalagasy S.A., the national pharmaceutical manufacturing company of Madagascar, and Utopia Pharmaceuticals, one of Egypt’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, have signed a Strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a long-term partnership in pharmaceutical manufacturing, technology transfer, research and development, herbal medicines, nutritional supplements, and public health initiatives.
The partnership aims to foster collaboration in pharmaceutical production, technical knowledge exchange, scientific research and innovation, and the development of herbal and nutritional healthcare products. It also seeks to support public health programs and strengthen local capacities, contributing to improved access to high-quality medicines for the people of Madagascar and the broader African region.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the official visit of the Pharmalagasy delegation to the Arab Republic of Egypt, in the presence of:
● Mrs. Hanitrinialasoa Rajohnson, General Manager, Pharmalagasy S.A., Madagascar.
● Mr. Jesiharison Panoel Andriatsarafara, World Bank Consultant and Strategic Advisor for the Restructuring and Development Program of Pharmalagasy S.A.
● Dr. Elsaied Kamel, Chairman of Utopia Pharmaceuticals, Egypt.
Both parties emphasized that this agreement marks the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at supporting pharmaceutical localization, strengthening health security across Africa, and promoting the exchange of technology and expertise in line with the African Union’s vision for greater pharmaceutical self-sufficiency.
The partnership also reflects Egypt’s growing role as a regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation and highlights Utopia Pharmaceuticals’ commitment to expanding its presence across Africa. Guided by the belief that the future of the African pharmaceutical industry lies in collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technology transfer, this initiative seeks to improve public health outcomes while contributing to sustainable economic development throughout the continent
