A recent Egyptian study reveals that the rate of blood pressure control has increased to 44.2%, compared to only 8% three decades ago.
The Egyptian Society of Hypertension, headed by Professor Mohamed Mohsen Ibrahim, Professor of Cardiology at Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, along with Professor Wafaa El-Arousy, Professor of Cardiology at Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine and Treasurer of the Egyptian Society of Hypertension, announced the results of the “Blood Pressure Control Rate in Egypt 2025” study. The study showed that the rate of blood pressure control among Egyptian patients has risen to 44.2%, compared to only 8% in the last national study conducted in 1995 as part of the National Hypertension Project (NHP).
The study results were announced during the 28th Annual Conference of the Egyptian Society of Hypertension, held in Cairo on June 3rd and 4th, attended by leading cardiology and hypertension professors, researchers, and healthcare specialists.
These findings represent a significant development, reflecting notable progress in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension patients in Egypt, increased patient awareness regarding the importance of follow-up and treatment adherence, as well as the expanded use of modern therapies and the implementation of the latest scientific guidelines in medical practice.
Professor Mohamed Mohsen Ibrahim emphasized that this study represents an important scientific reference for monitoring the current status of hypertension in Egypt. It also provides updated local data that can support healthcare policies and help develop more effective strategies to improve disease control rates and reduce complications.
For her part, Professor Wafaa El-Arousy explained that producing updated Egyptian scientific evidence has become an urgent necessity due to its role in supporting evidence-based medical decision-making and improving the quality of healthcare provided to patients. She added that local studies more accurately reflect the nature of Egyptian society and its healthcare needs.
The study was conducted under the sponsorship of Utopia Pharma as part of the company’s commitment to supporting scientific research and promoting local studies that contribute to the development of the healthcare system and improve patient treatment outcomes in Egypt.
In this context, Dr. El-Saeed Kamel, Head of the Human Pharmaceuticals Division at the Egyptian Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industries and CEO of Utopia Pharma, stated that supporting scientific research is one of the most important roles of the modern pharmaceutical industry. He noted that this study represents a successful model of collaboration between scientific societies, academic institutions, and the pharmaceutical industry to produce local scientific evidence that reflects the reality of Egyptian patients.
He added that Egypt possesses distinguished scientific talents and a strong pharmaceutical manufacturing infrastructure, and that investing in local studies will contribute to enhancing healthcare quality, supporting evidence-based decision-making, and reinforcing Egypt’s position as a regional hub for knowledge production and medical scientific research.
